NEWBORN BABY GIRL PHOTOGRAPHY BY KIM KELLEY PHOTO
newborn baby girl San Diego, CA
This newborn baby girl photography session turned into a session fit for a princess!
The perks of working in the Navy….I got to meet this sweet little baby girl when she was just a few days old and take some summer newborn photos of her and her family. The perks of summer newborn photos? You don’t have to crank the heat, you just refrain from turning on the air conditioning. We were all sweating at the end of the session, but it was worth it. This tiny baby had a sweaty back and head, but I got some sweet photos and she snoozed right through all the manipulations of the position changes.
This baby was a princess before she was even born. So it was only fitting that her theme was a newborn baby girl princess photo session! This girl is quickly moving from princess to queen as she steals the hearts of everyone in the house.
I know her mom from working with her on the pediatric ward at the Navy hospital. She’s an excellent nurse, and an even better mother. We met up for our first family photo shoot when her older son was just 1 year old. I brought all my 1 year old props for a cake smash photo session, but was outdone by her bringing her own decorations, all fitting with the theme of Leo the Lion, and all handmade by her. You can see the cute photos here! That was last year. This year they welcomed Elinor (the Elephant). Each kiddo gets their own animal theme and she runs with it! You’ll see the incredible elephant Elinor already owned at 9 days old.
a little princess and her daddy
Sometimes my favorite part of newborn photo shoots are the time with the baby and her dad. This was one of those times. Elinor’s dad is also in the Navy, but when it comes to his wife and his kids, he will do anything they ask. For Leo’s 1st birthday photos he wore a safari/lion matching bowtie with Leo. And for Elinor’s newborn photos he sat through the whole thing (4 hours!!!) and never once asked me when I might be finished. 🙂 When I told him I’d like to get some photos of just him and Elinor he was genuinely surprised, and ultimately, thrilled. I think often times dads take a step back when a newborn arrives. They seem so dependent on their moms, that dads just naturally fall to the wayside. But telling him I wanted pictures of only him and his baby girl made his day. And I’m sure these father/daughter photos are some that her mom will treasure as well!
