Dance Photography

It was the first time I was asked to do dance photography, so I was pretty nervous. I scoured Pinterest for ideas, I googled images, and I wracked my brain for interesting places to have the shoot.  The one redeeming feature of this dance photoshoot was the fact that I knew this family well from all our prior family photo sessions, so I wasn’t afraid to tell them this was all brand new to me.

The Dancers

The girls were in middle school and elementary school at the time of this photoshoot. They have been in dance companies for years, and their skills blow my mind. The dance photos I collected from my google searches were super easy for them to pull off.  In the beginning they waited for direction from me. But after getting comfortable they started searching the location for jumps and bends and twists and leaps….all of which were phenomenol.

Here is just a small representation of the dance photoshoot we did.

If you have any dancers in your life, contact me to discuss a dance photography session. It’s truely amazing, and you should not miss the opportunity to document what these dancers can do.

  • Sally - So- I’ve been following the photos posted on this site for a while… years really. And more than once I’ve laughed out loud at the stories behind the shots. More then once I’ve though you’ve captured the impossible split second timeless moments in a life. But this is the first time I am moved to comment. These photographs are absolutely fantastic. Bravo! Keep on inspiring those of us who are moved by your talent and your vision in capturing the humanity and the sculptureal essence of beauty that exists in this world.ReplyCancel

  • Susan - The girls had such a great time with you and felt so relaxed as we all explored the various locations and poses for their first dance photo shoot with you!  Thank you for capturing their art and love for dance! ReplyCancel
